Sterile Services Technician

Job Purpose

This officer is required to perform routine technical work in the collection, cleaning, preparation, packaging, sterilization of medical surgical, nursing supplies, and equipment in accordance with the Policy and Procedure Manual and standards of Quality Assurance.

The Authority reserves the right to assign the officer to any Facility under its management.

The core functions include but not limited to the following:

• Collects and/or receives contaminated articles from User Areas.
• Washes soiled articles, assemble soiled or washed articles in baskets prior to final documentation and cleaning in mechanical or ultrasonic washers.
• Assembles and wraps diagnostic trays with appropriate surgical instruments and supplies for subsequent sterilization.
• Answers, interprets and fills phone requests for issue of equipment and supplies.
• Recognizes defective/unsafe equipment and immediately reports them to the Client Services Coordinator.
• Checks and maintains an adequate level of Sterile Supplies and Equipment as required.
• Orders linen to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
• Maintains and cleans work surfaces and equipment in department in order to provide sterile equipment and supplies.
• Prepares items for gas sterilization and demonstrates understanding of the necessary precautions associated with gas sterilization.
• Performs required autoclave monitoring procedures (e.g. Bowie-Dick test, Biological Test, Leak test)
• Performs other related duties as required by the Senior.
• Ability to perform duties according to assigned rosters or plans that can be formulated in times of authorized service exigencies
• Ability to use the relevant computer applications related to job functions.

Required Qualifications, Training and Experience:

• The incumbent is required to have pursued at least three (3) GCE/CXC O’level subjects.
