The Specialist Nurse assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care for critically ill patients, interprets biochemical data, supervises healthcare workers, manages crises, and maintains relationships with the health team and clients.

 

Job Purpose

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate critically ill patients requiring specific nursing care;
  • Interpret biochemical data and act appropriately through quick strategic decisions;
  • Teach, supervise and evaluate various categories of healthcare workers;
  • Follow established guidelines in caring for mechanical devices and instruments;
  • Initiate patient management in crisis situations;
  • Supervise and evaluate Enrolled Assistant Nurses and Attendants;
  • Establish and maintain an interpersonal relationship with the health team and client.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution;
  • Completion of the prescribed specialist training course;
  • Registered with the Nursing Council of Jamaica;
  • Three (3) years experience as a Registered Nurse
