Conducts social and economic research for the Ministry of Health, collecting and analyzing data to support decision-making aligned with strategic priorities.

 

JOB PURPOSE:

The incumbent is required to provide technical support by planning, organizing and conducting social and economic research activities into areas related to the functioning of the Ministry of Health in accordance with the objectives and strategic priority areas of the relevant division/unit of the Ministry to which the position is allocated. Work involves collecting, collating, analyzing and evaluating data on trends to inform decision-making. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, organizes and conducts surveys on subjects pertinent to the operations and functional responsibilities of the Division /Unit. 
  • Collects data on trends from local, regional and international bodies. 
  • Liaises and collaborates with research institutions in Government Ministries and Departments, quasi government bodies. 
  • Compiles, collates, analyses and interprets data and prepares relevant reports Develops and maintains a system for safe keeping of research records and data.
  • Assists with the dissemination of research findings. 
  • Assists with the coordination of grant and funded research projects awarded to the Ministry of Health 
  • Serves on Committees and advises on the interpretation of the methodology used in collecting analysing and interpreting data. 
  • Reviews and analyses research studies prepared for the Ministry or submitted for review by external agencies. 
  • Assists with the coordination of grant and funded research projects awarded to the Ministry of Health. 
  • Performs any other related work as may be required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of principles, techniques and practices of research and investigative methodology and relevant software. 
  • Knowledge of the workings of appropriate statistical software applications. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Sound Planning, Organization, Time Management and implementation skills. 
  • Ability to compile, collate and present research data in a useful form.
  • Ability to analyse and evaluate problems objectively. 
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to prepare reports containing descriptive, analytical and evaluative content. 
  • Sound analytical and report writing skills 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to promote teamwork, manage, and analyze divergent points of view in leading discussions and answering questions 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues. 
  • Ability to work independently 

 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

  • BSc. Degree in any one of the Social Sciences from a recognized, accredited University;
  • Considerable experience (5 to 8 years) in the use of research methodologies, conducting research work; 
  • Experience in the use of statistical software applications. 
  • Post-graduate training will be an asset; and

  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience
