The Registrar diagnoses and treats in-patients and out-patients, contributes to care plans, and manages imaging studies, ensuring efficient organization and control under the Specialist Medical Officer’s guidance.

 

JOB PURPOSE

The Registrar is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of in and out patients under the Specialist Medical Officer’s charge. Contributes to and executes the management care plans for patients in the unit and discharges any duties assigned to him or her by the Specialist Medical Officer expeditiously.

The Registrar is also responsible for the day to day management and control of imaging studies for in-patients, out-patients and to see that, in consultation with his/her senior, these are efficiently organized and controlled.

 

 

THE CORE FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Performs regular case discussions with his senior and junior colleagues to finalise results of diagnostic imaging test results and communicate urgent results to requesting physicians.
  • Supervises performance of junior officers when on call, to review all imaging studies of all seriously ill patients within the shortest possible time, and communicate same to requesting physicians in a timely fashion
  • Advices and recommends the intelligent and cost effective use of the ALL Radiological Services, their contributions to diagnosis and management and their inherent reliability.
  • Ensures proper communication to all referring doctors results of urgent Imaging Studies.
  • Ensures that all patients are treated in accordance with the Patient Charter Standard
  • Ascertains that all imaging reports are promptly written, are accurate, relevant and concise and must be countersigned by him/her.
  • Keeps the Specialist Medical Officer informed of any difficulty that may arise in the imaging studies of any patient and seek his/her assistance.
  • Acts on behalf of the Specialist Medical Officer of his/her firm for request for consultations from other units, either in the advent of an emergency or if so requested by his/her Specialist Medical Officer and discuss with him/her all such consultations.
  • Supervises and assesses the clinical competence of Interns and House Officers and discusses this with the Specialist Medical Officer in charge.
  • Monitors and checks the accuracy of imaging reports generated by the junior colleagues, and reviews the standards of report writing by his/her juniors.
  • Teaches and expands the knowledge and education of their junior colleagues and medical students in collaboration with the Specialist Medical Officer who may be assigned to their firm/unit, and assists the Specialist Medical Officer with the research projects.
  • Ensures that officers who are supervised by him/her adhere to the professional code of conduct and human resources policies and procedures of the Authority.
  • Attends and participates in teaching sessions and lectures.
  • Accepts other responsibilities that the Specialist Medical Officer may request from time to time.
  • Guides, monitors and recommends to Interns and House Officers, appropriate management practices in patient care.
  • Performs related work as may be required.
  • Ability to perform duties according to assigned rosters or plans that can be formulated in times of authorized service exigencies.
  • Ability to use the relevant computer applications related to job functions.

 
Position Requirements

  • Registration as a medical practitioner by the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Maintains his/her annual renewal with the Medical Board.
  • Possession of a recognized Post Graduate Degree or Diploma in the appropriate discipline. DM (Radiology) UWI, FRCR (UK) , American Board Certified (Radiology).
  • At least four (4) years’ experience after qualification from an approved Medical School and five years post-registration experience/training in the area of specialization.
