The incumbent provides nursing care in hospitals and health centers, supervising prenatal, intranatal, and postpartum care, monitoring vital signs for safe delivery, and referring deviations to specialists as needed.

 

Job Purpose

Responsible for providing nursing care in hospitals, rural maternity centres and health centres by:

  • Giving and supervising care to clients in the pre-natal, intra-natal and post partum periods to ensure the health and welfare of mother and child and also ensuring the smooth conduct of normal labour by monitoring vital signs for the safe delivery of mother and child, under aseptic conditions.
  • Identifying deviations from the normal in the care of mother and child and referring to an Obstetrician or Pediatrician as indicated.

 

Qualifications

  • BSc./Certificate in Midwifery from accredited school of nursing
  • Midwifery training and registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica
  • 1 year experience post registration
