The Public Relations Officer provides technical support to the Director and all other staff members as is required to foster a positive image of the CTVET.

 

JOB PURPOSE:

The Public Relations Officer provides technical support to the Director and all other staff members as is required to foster a positive image of the CTVET.

The CTVET is required to serve a wide cross section of Guyanese including but not limited to:

  • Students of TVET in Private and Public Secondary Schools;
  • Students and Trainees of Technical Institutions;
  • Apprentices and persons pursuing special courses in Industry;
  • Instructors and Assessors of Training Institutions;
  • Craftsmen, Technicians and Engineers of Registered Organisations;
  • Uncertified persons who are desirous of being certified; and
  • Persons in Business and Industry.

The incumbent is accountable for planning and delivering of CTVET’s Public Relations Strategy in collaboration with Staff and through the preparation of Annual Work Plans. The objectives for a dynamic, consistent public awareness/education programme are as follows:

  • Influence action for quality and standards in TVET training
  • Improve public understanding of what CTVET does                                  
  • Enhance CTVET’s relationships with the public and private sector.
  • Maintain good rapport and improve cooperation with all stakeholders
  • Maintain a good relationship with members of the media
  • Establish and maintain relationship with Government Ministries and Departments
  • Recruit External Verifiers
  • Announce/ publicise activities.
  • Cultivate appreciation for quality and standards among members of the public and TVET institutions
  • Build partnership with employees and institutions to achieve mutual goals

 

DUTIES AND RESPONIBILITIES:

It is the responsibility of the Public Relations Officer to:

  • Design, implement and support the communications elements of the registrations, QA, and approval processes developed by the Council.
  • Disseminate information to the public on registration, QA, approval and articulation at the secondary level locally and internationally.
  • Forward all media releases to local, regional and international print and broadcast media organisations.
  • Develop and manage the Council’s advertising and promotional budget.
  • Plan and coordinate social events for the Council in collaboration with staff from the other departments.
  • Prepare the graphics and text layout for internal and external public relations documents (forms, brochures, press release, charts).
  • Convert text documents(print) to other forms of visual media (graphs, charts, diagrams, animation)
  • Update and maintain the organisation’s Website, Facebook, etc.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in the humanities or equivalent.
  • Diploma in Communication an asset.
  • A minimum of 3 Years in a similar position in the areas of advertising or corporate publications.
  • Experience in desktop publishing.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Certification or training in graphic arts and design.
