Reporting to the Deputy Chief Public Health Inspector, the incumbent is responsible for managing the activities within a zone/district, with direct supervision over a cadre of officers operating in a designated geographical location.

 

Requirements:

  • BSc. Degree in Environmental Health with a Major in Public Health Inspection or equivalent.
  • Approved academic or professional qualifications in any of the prescribed specialist areas of Public Health. 
  • Certification in Management Studies/ Public Administration/Human Resource Management/ Supervisory Management 
  • Minimum 6 years relevant work experience 
  • Register with the Council for Professional supplementary to Medicine in Jamaica
  • Competency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Proactive Work Attitude, good ethical conduct and human relations skills 
  • Good oral, written and Time Management Skills 
  • Excellent, analytical report writing and presentation skills 

 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop programme plans for the zone/district. 
  • Manage and coordinate resources for the zone/district (to include human and material
  • Monitor programme activities in accordance with compliance standards. 
  • Manage a database for the zone/district (sanitary status, demographic characteristics and zone profile) 
  • Maintain an up to date zone/district profile 
  • Schedule work activities within zone/district 
  • Supervise Public Health Inspector Interns 
  • Delegate duties and supervise subordinates 
  • Conduct audits of inspections. 
  • Make projections for staffing, plan intervention strategies including high risk population and develop a timetable for deliverables in consultation with PHI Specialist 
  • Monitor key health indicators and provide feedback to specialists and DCPHI regarding zone status. 
  • Provide technical advice. 
  • Manage the enforcement of the Public Health Act and requisite regulations 
  • Identify, organize and conduct training programs for subordinates. 
  • Verify and compile inspection reports 
  • Verify reimbursable and other claims 
  • Evaluate the performance of supervisees 
  • Inter-disciplinary collaboration 
  • Develop Esprit de corps among staff
