To assist the Pharmacist in performing routine mechanical and repetitive activities such as filing of prescriptions, ward charts and related duties such as stock control.

 

KEY OUTPUTS:

  • Efficient and safe provision of Pharmaceuticals to consumers as required.
  • Dispensed prescriptions to out-patients and in-patients.
  • Up to date stock levels and inventory records.

 

RANGE OF ACTIVITIES:

  • Assists in the dispensing of prescriptions to consumers under the supervision of the Pharmacist.
  • Participates in drug distribution activities at the Pharmacy and in the Hospital Ward.
  • Informs Pharmacist of stock situations e.g., needs, shortages etc.
  • Interprets Ward Charts and dispenses the stipulated drug.
  • Assists in the proper storage and safety of Pharmaceuticals.
  • To perform any other related duties for the smooth functioning of the department.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Four (4) subjects at G.C.E./C.X.C. including English Language PLUS the Pharmacy Assistant Certificate. 

 

DECISION MAKING, PROBLEM SOLVING AND IMPACT ON RESULTS:

  • The incumbent is engaged in routine, mechanical and repetitive activities He/she is closely supervised and does not have to make complex decisions. Impact can be measured by the diligent dispensing of drugs and other pharmaceuticals and up to date inventory. 

 

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT:

  • The job holder does not supervise any subordinate staff. He/she is not a budget holder or is responsible for any cash or equipment. 

 

COMMUNICATIONS:

  • Apart from all levels of staff in the unit, the job holder relates to Health Care Workers on matters relating to queries, drugs distribution and dispensing. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This job is primarily non-field type of work which includes filling of prescriptions, but the job holder is exposed to risks associated with the handling of drugs and pharmaceuticals and a hospital environment.
