Seahorse National Park at Sweetings Pond & Hatchet Bay Caves, Eleuthera

The Bahamas National Trust seeks to engage qualified personnel who will be responsible for the upkeep of Seahorse National Park which consists primarily of manual labor, working independently or with a crew to perform general landscaping and grounds maintenance duties.

 

Responsibilities

  • General site remediation and cleanup.
  • Trail development and other general small construction projects.
  • Hand clearing and maintenance of nature trails.
  • General landscape maintenance including planting, transplanting, pruning trees, and shrubs, watering, mulching, mowing, grooming, raking, hoeing, digging, weeding, fertilizing, and edging.
  • General equipment maintenance.
  • Safely operate small equipment.
  • Off-site collection of casuarina wood, leaf litter, and other materials as needed.
  • Work safely without injury to self, others, and property.
  • Interact with staff, volunteers, and the public in a friendly and respectful manner.
  • Assist in the sanitary operation of restrooms when needed.
  • Represent the Bahamas National Trust at trainings and workshops.
  • Assist with support for special events and other projects as needed.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • A high school diploma.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • 1-2 years of landscape maintenance experience is preferred.
  • General good physical condition and the ability to lift, push, pull, and carry items up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work with basic gardening and field tools including chainsaws.
  • Able and willing to work outdoors when the weather is hot, humid, or cold.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
