The Healthcare Facilities Maintenance Lead Technician oversees maintenance operations, provides leadership, and ensures proper functioning of building and medical gas systems, maintaining safety, compliance, and efficiency in healthcare facilities.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Healthcare Facilities Maintenance Lead Technician is responsible for performing general maintenance and repairs on the building systems and equipment within the health system as assigned by his supervisor. This role includes tasks such as plumbing, electrical work, HVAC systems, and other mechanical systems to ensure a safe, clean, and efficient environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This is a position that provides leadership, guidance, and oversight of subordinates coupled with hands-on performance.

A Lead Technician (Medical Gas) is responsible for coordinating and/or performing the safe installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of medical gas systems within the health system. As well as the checking, filling, and distributions of various size cylinders throughout the health system. This includes oxygen, nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide, medical air system, vacuum system, and other essential medical gases used for patient care. The Lead Technician ensures compliance with all applicable safety standards, regulations, and industry best practices.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Installation and Maintenance:

  • Coordinate, perform, and/or supervise the installation and maintenance of medical gas systems, including pipelines, cylinders, valves, and regulators, ensuring proper functionality and safety standards.
  • Ensure routine inspections and maintenance on medical gas systems are performed to ascertain that they are operating efficiently and safely.
  • Diagnose and coordinate repairs to any issues related to medical gas systems, including leaks, pressure irregularities, and faulty equipment.
  • Coordinate and provide oversight of pressure tests, flow tests, and other assessments to verify the integrity of gas delivery systems.
  • Other Facilities related maintenance or repair activities as assigned.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure all medical gas systems comply with applicable codes and regulations, including NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards.
  • Manages the repository and filing system for documents relevant to the system inspections, repairs, and maintenance, ensuring proper records are kept for regulatory purposes and internal auditing.
  • Stay up to date on changes in medical gas standards, codes, and best practices to ensure the facility remains compliant.


SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Certification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree or technical certification in a related field is preferred.
  • Certification as a Medical Gas Installer or Experience as Medical Gas professional
  • Valid driver's license.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working with medical gas systems in a healthcare or industrial setting.
  • Experience with installation, testing, and troubleshooting of medical gas systems is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a leadership role within the medical gas industry or healthcare setting

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in using tools and equipment for installing and maintaining medical gas systems.
  • Knowledge of medical gas codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
