The Laboratory Quality Manager oversees the design, implementation, and evaluation of laboratory quality systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, while promoting quality control and assurance throughout the laboratory

 

Job Purpose

The Laboratory Quality Manager will be a key member of the team charged with the design, implementation and evaluation of the laboratory quality systems within the region. He/she will manage the system. Work involves maintaining quality control programs and quality assurance in the Laboratory with the objective that the laboratory becomes more effective in quality terms and meets both regulatory and accreditation requirements. The Laboratory Quality Manager will have the skills and ability to promote quality in all areas of the Laboratory

The Authority reserves the right to assign the officer to any Facility under its management.

 

The core functions include but not limited to the following:

  • Develops, plans and coordinates quality assurance/quality control systems for the SWRHA laboratory services.
  • Monitors and evaluates quality systems to maintain compliance with approved agreed standards, and protocol guidelines.
  • Collaborates with the Clinical Head of Department and the Laboratory Manager to develop and maintain the Laboratory’s Quality Manual and services.
  • Educates and trains the staff in laboratory quality principles and practices.
  • Investigates service complaints regarding laboratory results and ensures that effective immediate and follow-up actions are taken.
  • Contributes to the strategic development of the laboratory quality service.
  • Conducts Departmental audits against defined quality performance measures and ensure that effective immediate follow-up actions are taken.
  • Follows-up on external inspections and verifies the completion of corrective actions as required by the reports of the inspectors.
  • Monitors the requirements of laboratory users for compliance to policies and protocols to ensure that they are reflected within defined quality performance measures.
  • Identifies areas and particular projects where there is the potential for improvement of quality to the benefit of the service provided by the Laboratory, and works in collaboration with the Clinical Head of Department, Pathology and Laboratory Manager to improve the level of quality in the identified areas.
  • Performs related work as may be assigned.

 

Required Qualifications, Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • A Specialist Diploma in an area of Laboratory Medicine e.g. Microbiology
  • Certification in Quality Management.
  • A Certificate in Quality Lead Auditor (Internal/External Auditor) from a recognised Institution.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant working experience in implementing laboratory quality systems.
  • Registration with the Medical Laboratory Technician’s Board, Council for Professions related to Medicine.
