The Bahamas National Trust (BNT) seeks to engage an Invasive Alien Species (IAS) Management Coordinator who will be responsible for the development and coordination of a comprehensive IAS management program for the BNT national park system.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive IAS prevention and management strategy for the national park system.
  • Coordinate the implementation of an IAS management strategy.
  • Consolidate and communicate best management practices for IAS prevention, management, and restoration to internal teams and external parties.
  • Plan and facilitate training on IAS species identification, best management practices, and other program-relevant topics.
  • Develop relationships and collaborate with relevant partners, stakeholder groups, and communities to support the IAS management program.
  • Support the development and delivery of an IAS communications strategy.
  • Administer the IAS Management budget and assist with associated grants and project tracking and reporting.
  • Work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
  • Contribute to the development of national park management plans, zoning plans, and conservation action plans.
  • Represent the BNT at scientific meetings and conferences.
  • Participate in departmental planning and organizational strategic planning.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Biodiversity Conservation, or a related field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and demonstrable computing skills.
  • Attentive to details.
  • Able to multi-task and capable of working both independently and as a part of a team.
  • Passion for the environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Bahamian ecology and native, threatened, and invasive alien species, habitats, ecosystems, and their conservation issues.
  • Able to work in remote areas and flexible hours, including weekends.
  • Willingness to travel both nationally and internationally.
  • Demonstrated experience in geospatial technologies (GPS, GIS, etc.), mapping, drone handling, data collection and analysis, grant and project development and management are all considered a plus.
