Job overview

The Head of Secondary will be a key member of the School Leadership team at BHS and report directly to the Head of School. The key function of this position is the overall leadership and management of the Secondary programme from Year 7 to Year 11. The successful applicant will create a safe and nurturing learning environment; manage the development of curriculum; set and monitor performance goals for teachers and students; liaise directly with the Head of Primary to ensure appropriate vertical alignment of the curricula between departments; and assist in leading the school through its continuing journey of self-evaluation and accreditation through organizations such as the Council of International Schools (CIS) and New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). 

 

Requirements:

Applicants must

  • Be experienced, well-qualified educators with at least 5 years’ leadership experience in independent school education, with direct teaching and leadership experience in IGCSEs, A Level, and/or IB. Possess knowledge of middle school pedagogy and practice in which metacognition and belonging are central to the programme.
  • Be an educator with working knowledge and experience in leading an international accreditation process and an international staff.
  • Have strong leadership, management and organisational skills as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Be a nurturing, enthusiastic and energetic educational leader who is passionate about the growth and development of children. 
  • Possess innovative ideas to promote the school and engage with parents, caregivers and the wider community.
  • Create and develop a year 7 to 13 timetable.

 

Academic Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree from a recognised university. A master's degree is preferred.
  • The successful candidate must qualify for certification by the Bermuda Educator’s Council.
