The incumbent performs maintenance repairs, ensures equipment functionality, maintains safety standards, assists guests, and supports team operations while demonstrating expertise in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building systems.

 

CORE FUNCTIONS

Maintenance & Engineering Responsibilities  

Guest & Facility Repairs  

  • Respond to guest repair requests promptly and professionally  
  • Diagnose and resolve maintenance issues with minimal supervision  
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools, equipment, and machinery including cleaning, lubrication and inspections  
  • Carry tools, equipment and radios as needed  
  • Operate shut-off valves for equipment and buildings  
  • Maintain inventory and order parts/supplies  
  • Communicate daily activities and issues to other shifts using approved methods  

Technical Expertise  

  • Specialization: Advanced skill in at least one area (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.), above-average in two, and basic in others:  
    • Air conditioning & refrigeration  
    • Electrical systems  
    • Mechanical systems  
    • Plumbing including PVC/copper pipe soldering  
    • Pneumatic/electronic controls  
    • Carpentry & finishing  
    • Kitchen equipment  
    • Vehicle maintenance  
    • Energy conservation  
    • General building management  
  • Proficient in using hand/power tools safely  
  • Troubleshoot and repair:  
    • Plumbing systems including unclogging drains and fixing toilets  
    • Electrical components including switches, outlets and lamps  
    • Appliances including vacuum cleaners, pumps and motors  
    • Guestroom items including TV programming and cosmetic fixes  
  • Perform minor drywall, painting and trim repairs  
  • Replace light bulbs and A/C filters  

Safety & Compliance  

  • Follow Lockout/Tagout procedures before maintenance work  
  • Use engineering software for preventive maintenance and energy management  
  • Troubleshoot MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) systems  
  • Train and mentor junior engineers  
  • Complete Engineer on Duty tasks including readings and rounds  
  • Report hazards, accidents and injuries; complete safety training  
  • Properly store flammable materials

  • Provide excellent guest service including acknowledging needs, assisting disabled guests and expressing gratitude

Physical Requirements  

  • Lift/carry up to 50 lbs unassisted; assist with heavier tasks  
  • Move through stairs, ramps and ladders  
  • Bend, twist, reach overhead, stoop and kneel  
  • Use computers for work-related tasks  
  • Perform additional duties as requested

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and vocational or technical background.
  • Related Work Experience: Experience in general maintenance, exterior and interior surface preparation, and painting.
  • At least 2 years of hotel engineering/maintenance experience.
  • Supervisory Experience: No supervisory experience. 


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • License or Certification: Valid Driver’s License
  • Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Certification
  • Must meet applicable state and federal certification and/or licensing requirements.
