The Dean of Business, IT, Electronics & Media Technology Trades leads faculty, staff, and students, ensuring quality programs, faculty development, and policy implementation.

 

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Academic Affairs or designate, the Dean Business, Information Technology, Electronics & Media Technology Trades serves as the Institute’s leader in the trades comprising Business, Information and Communications Technology, and Electronics and Media Technology. Responsible for providing leadership for faculty, staff, and students, the Dean ensures the quality of programmes and the student experience overseeing the course planning, course onboarding, faculty development, policy implementation. The position is a member of the Academic Leadership Team and has supervisory responsibility for a team of Heads of Department for each of the Trades. Externally, in concert with the Heads of Department, the Dean serves as a link to alumni, the business, ICT, electronics and media technology communities, and other key stakeholders. The Dean also plays a critical role in establishing new – and strengthening existing – relationships across all constituencies, both internal and external.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assume a leadership role for curriculum assessment and development
  • Develop and monitor divisional initiatives and related special projects
  • Aligned with Institute protocols, ensure that programme reviews are conducted and Occupational Advisory Committee recommendations are implemented as applicable
  • Recommend to the [Senior] Associate Vice President the development, implementation, continuance, revision or phaseout of trade programmes
  • Oversee the assessment of learning outcomes for each of the trade areas under the Division
  • In coordination with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, coordinate accreditation processes and requirements specific to trade programmes under the Division
  • In coordination with the department heads develop master schedule
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of catalogue revisions and marketing materials
  • Supervise the divisional marketing activities in coordination with the Public Relations & Marketing and Registrar offices
  • Oversee the Divisional activities for visitors including annual events like Open House, tours, student orientation, and scheduling of new students
  • Resolve student issues/problems across the Division
  • In conjunction with Heads of Department, prepare job descriptions; recruit in coordination with Human Resources, interview, and recommend for hire new faculty and staff
  • In conjunction with Human Resources and Heads of Department, orient new faculty and staff
  • Supervise and/or evaluate Heads of Department and staff in accordance with the performance evaluation plan
  • Provide leadership and support for faculty and staff within the Division and throughout the Institute network – main campus, branch campus, extension campuses and instructional service centres – for continued professional growth and development
  • Address Divisional personnel issues in consultation with Heads of Department and Human Resources and in keeping with Institute policies and relevant Industrial Agreements
  • Collaborate with the execution of the Institute’s Strategic Plan
  • Advocate for and drive strategies aimed at achieving the Institute’s mission and vision
  • Contribute to the development of and manage the budget for the Division
  • Guide departmental leadership of Occupational Advisory Committees
  • Coordinate with External Relations for grants and donations
  • Provide leadership for non-credit and customised programmes within the Division and throughout the Institute network – main campus, branch campus, extension campuses and instructional service centres
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent preferred with 7-10 years relevant experience, preferably in an industry related trade associated with the Division
  • At least 3-5 years in an administrative role
