The Pathologist examines and reports on surgical, cytology, and autopsy cases, advises staff, ensures policy compliance, supports quality improvement, and maintains accreditation standards for Anatomical Pathology services.

 

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Reports Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology specimens and autopsies in both hospital and coroners cases
  • Performs gross and microscopic examinations of pathological specimens
  • Responsible for provision of day to day advice and directions for Anatomic Pathology Staff
  • Provides with others a comprehensive Anatomical Pathology service and Autopsy service to BHB in accordance with existing BHB standard policies and operating procedures
  • Assists with the writing and maintenance of appropriate departmental policies and procedures and ensures continued compliance with Joint Commission International Accreditation requirements
  • Assists with quality improvement practices, and outcome measurements. Monitor such activities through regular audits and reviews

 

Qualifications & Registration required:

  • Minimum of 5 years postgraduate experience
  • Professional qualification and Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology or Histopathology or equivalent
  • Current registration with Medical Council in relevant jurisdiction
  • Must be eligible to register with the Bermuda Medical Council and eligible for hospital privileges
