The incumbent oversees Microbiology quality assurance, supervises technical functions, ensures policy compliance, monitors improvements, prepares reports, liaises with Pathology, and supports infection control initiatives.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for quality assurance; supervision of technical functions of Microbiology service to BHB; interpreting and authorizing results obtained within the Microbiology department
  • Assist with the writing and maintenance of appropriate departmental policies and procedures and ensures continued compliance with Joint Commission International Accreditation requirements
  • Assist with quality improvement practices, and outcome measurements.  Monitor such activities through regular audits and reviews
  • Prepare and provide associated general and statistical reports as required by the Department of Pathology
  • Liaises with the Chief of Pathology to ensure accountability and acceptable turn-around-times for all inpatient/outpatient studies
  • Utilizes Quality Improvement data to improve the quality of services to the clients, both internal and external, of the Department
  • Attend internal and external committees as assigned by the Chief of Pathology
  • Assist the infection control practitioners in setting and monitoring appropriate policies

 

Qualifications & Registration required:

  • Must hold PhD/MRC Path in Microbiology or if medically qualified a specialty certification in Microbiology
  • Minimum of 5 years’ post graduate experience in Microbiology. Experienced and competent within the field
  • Maintain Specialist qualification where qualified
  • Current registration with Medical Council in relevant jurisdiction
  • Must be eligible to register with the Bermuda Medical Council and eligible for hospital privileges
