The Clinical Psychologist develops and implements Child & Adolescent Mental Health programs, provides psychotherapy, crisis consultation, training, and outreach, and supports employees and PLHIV through counseling and therapeutic interventions.

 

Job Purpose

Under the general direction of the Regional Psychiatrist, the incumbent will be responsible for conducting group sessions and providing one-on-one support for children, adolescents and their parents referred through Child Guidance Clinics. Additionally, the Psychologist will provide psychotherapy for adults in treatment facilities. 

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • MSc. Degree in Clinical Psychology 
  • At least two (2) years experience in Child Psychology and Counseling 
  • Experience in individual and group counseling would be an asset 

 

Specific Knowledge and Skills:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of human behaviour and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; 
  • Psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioural and affective disorders. 
  • Principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions and identifying complex problems 
  • Programme and evaluation and presentation skills 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Excellent analytical and report writing skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills 
  • Strong leadership and counseling skills 
  • Basic research skills 
  • Computer literacy

 

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing, co-ordinating and implementing Child & Adolescent Mental Health project within the Region 
  • Providing psychotherapy for children and adults linked with and treated in the treatment sites. 
  • Providing crisis consultation, psychological counselling & therapeutic techniques to employees under the EAP Programme. 
  • Participating in the preparation of quarterly review and yearly programme plans
  • Evaluation of children and adolescents who are referred to or walk into the clinic to facilitate diagnosis and management strategies of behavioural, emotional and psychiatric disorders and for their families. 
  • Liaising and networking with other agencies, school officials, civic groups, police, churches, etc to deliver educational talks/presentations on topics related to child and adolescent mental health and child development and parenting. 
  • Participating in the training of health and non-health professionals in areas of Child and Adolescent Mental Health assessment and management of the infected and or affected child (Child Abuse), Normal and Abnormal Child Development and Parenting. 
  • Providing crisis consultation, Counselling and therapeutic techniques with PLHIV.
