The Branch Verification Officer ensures compliance with bank policies, minimizes operational risk, monitors transactions and general ledger balances, verifies records, and supports branch operations through audits and process improvements.

 

Position Overview:

The Branch Verification Officer is responsible for ensuring the bank’s policies and procedures are adhered to, thereby minimizing operational risk and ensuring that the Bank is being closely monitored. 

This position is responsible for contributing to Branch Operations’ overall success by providing specific operational risk oversight support to the Assistant Branch Manager of Service and assigned Officer in charge with focused attention on detail and efficiency of duties performed and overall support to the Branch Operations Retail Team. The Branch Verification Officer’s success will be achieved by meeting the goals outlined by Branch Operations and will primarily involve working with the staff within the branches. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring general ledger balances of the Branch to ensure the integrity of the general ledger balances.
  • Ensure that financial transaction(s) conducted by operational units are properly authorized.
  • Ensuring that the transactions are properly recorded and record of such maintained.
  • Ensure that risk management systems are effective. 
  • Ensure that the policy and procedures governing ‘Suspense Accounts’ are followed.
  • Acts in the capacity of records manager and file custodian for the branch. 
  • Ensures that BOB cheques, Outgoing Clearing Cheques, and USD cheques are processed by the branch staff, collected, images received, and sent to the Data Center for holding.
  • Ensuring the accurate processing, posting / maintenance of daily transactions originated by customers or management. 
  • Monitoring an account for all negotiable items, stamps, cash keys, combinations and user ID’s consigned to his/her custody, by ensuring and exercising security precautions in accordance with Bank regulations and assigned limits. 
  • Verifying the accuracy and completeness of transactions and maintenance data as posted by others and documenting errors for subsequent correction. 
  • Maintaining records of Outgoing Cheques GLs, and other outlined GLs. 
  • Assisting with the implementation of changes to operating procedures/systems to increase efficiency and meet Bank regulations. 
  • Checking transactions are within approved authorized limits. 
  • Preparing reports as required. 

 

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • An Associates degree, or Institute of Financial Services Certificate, and two (2) to three (3) years supervisory banking experience in related area. 
  • In-depth knowledge of Bank services and policies and procedures specific to assigned area.
  • Core math skills to perform activities in assigned area. 
  • Supervisory skills to explain expected standards, advise in their interpretation, provide ongoing coaching, and provide performance feedback. 
  • Oral/written communication skills to interact with customers/associates, prepare correspondence, & publish reports. 
  • Analytical capability to audit work performance to standards; troubleshoot exceptions; resolve customer problems. 
  • Knowledge of governmental and banking laws, regarding improper practices such as money laundering and suspicious transactions;. 
  • Working knowledge of computers to use bank network and its core banking applications to prepare correspondence, (e.g. MS Office). 
  • Ability to work as a team member with other branch staff.
