Manages bank reconciliations, cheque records, and unresolved transfers while liaising with banks and customers, ensuring accurate accounts and delivering excellent customer service standards.

 

Job Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Revenue Accountant, the Bank Reconciliation Officer is responsible to:

  • Collect, reconcile and report on all Bank Statements queries and errors observed and monitor same with respective banks until a correction is made.
  • Prepare a monthly Bank Reconciliation Statement for each Bank Account, recording all outstanding cheques monthly.

 

Key Responsibility Areas

Technical/Professional Responsibilities

  • Collect Bank Statements from all banks at which the Agency holds Revenue Accounts, e.g. Deposit – Revenue Bank Account, Credit Cards – Bank Account;
  • Liaise with Banks and collection sites to verify lodgement/reports.
  • Reconcile Bank Accounts and prepare Bank Reconciliation Statements.
  • Prepare and maintain a record of outstanding and dishonoured cheques.
  • Maintain custody of all cashed cheques and Bank Statements returned from the Banks.
  • Maintain the cancelled cheque register.
  • Maintaining ledger and schedule for unassigned bank deposits
  • Liaise with Customers to resolve unreconciled transfers.

  • Identifies and incorporates the interests and needs of customers in business process design.
  • Ensures critical success factors are identified and meet expectations.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform all other duties and functions as may be required occasionally.
  • May be required to provide witness statements, attend court proceedings, and give evidence.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • First Degree in Accounting/Public Administration/Business Management with an emphasis on Accounting

OR

  • CAT Level 3/ACCA-AAT Level 3/ACCA Level 1 (completed)
  • At least one (1) year of related experience.
