The Associate Vice President, Teaching and Learning, leads curriculum, faculty, and cooperative education development, advising on academic planning, policy, and accreditation, ensuring quality and effective course delivery across the University.

 

Job Description:

The Associate Vice President (AVP), Teaching and Learning provides leadership capacity building and supervision in areas of curriculum development, faculty development, Cooperative Education (Co-op Education) and Prior Learning Assessment (PLA). She/he also has an important advisory and monitoring role to play in aspects of academic planning, policy development, and procedures relating to the course of study planning, development, delivery, review, and accreditation in the identification of appropriate resources and support systems to ensure the quality and delivery of the University’s courses of study. 

She/he also has oversight responsibility for the development of such areas as faculty professional development, PLA, and Cooperative Education. She/he should work in close collaboration with the colleges/faculties and other units to achieve the University’s goals for teaching and learning, professional development, prior learning assessment, and cooperative education. 

 

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Doctoral degree in Curriculum, Instructional Design, Educational Planning and Administration or Testing and Assessment from an accredited institution or equivalent qualifications. 
  • Teaching certification. 

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

The preferred applicant should possess: 

  • A broad understanding of teaching, learning, and assessment in higher education.
  • Expertise in the areas of student learning and faculty development at the University-wide level. 
  • Sound knowledge of institutional and course-based research design and implementation.
  • Expertise in conducting research and leading research initiatives. 
  • Extensive knowledge of cutting-edge curriculum design principles for tertiary level education, including outcomes-based curriculum and the application of learner-centred education systems. 
  • Knowledge of accreditation policies, principles and procedures, both nationally and internationally. 
  • Extensive knowledge of a broad range of programmes, evaluation strategies and their application in tertiary education 
  • Broad-based knowledge of adult education principles and their application including Prior Learning Assessment, Co-operative Education and Teaching and Learning 
  • Broad knowledge of policy planning, design and implementation including strategic planning, appreciative enquiry and other innovative planning systems. 
  • Ten (10) years experience in a higher educational institution with at least five (5) years of managing the curriculum and conducting staff development workshops.
