Under the general direction of the Senior Director, Zonal Operations, the incumbent will be responsible for providing technical inputs, establishing agroforestry sites and providing training associated with agroforestry.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

Management and Administrative Responsibilities 

  • Monitors trends, practices and systems in Agroforestry; 
  • Assists with the forming and strengthening of farmers’ groups and community organizations to participate in Agroforestry activities; 
  • Submits monthly progress reports; 

Technical/Professional Responsibilities 

  • Develop and implement strategies to increase timber tree growing by farmers;
  • Develop strategies for the cohabitation of timber trees and agricultural crops;
  • Provides technical assistance and land management plans to farmers; 
  • Make recommendations on design features for purposes of vegetation establishment, erosion control and appearance; 
  • Supervises and implement normative activities in agroforestry and urban forestry to ensure their full contribution to achieving the goals and objectives of the NFMCP;
  • Identifies appropriate strategies for agroforestry interventions and sustainable land management techniques to benefit local communities; 
  • Designs agroforestry farm plans for selected sites that integrate the use of forest tree species in agricultural production for improved ecosystems and livelihood protection;
  • Establish linkages with internal stakeholders to develop an efficient and effective agroforestry programme; 
  • Designs and develop demonstration farms on private lands; 
  • Conducts field days and/or on-farm training; 
  • Liaises with relevant stakeholders in designing the relevant training programmes for agroforestry development and livelihood programmes; 
  • Assists with drafting project proposals for external funding for communities at risk and LFMC with specific agroforestry needs; 
  • Assists in providing information in the mapping of agroforestry activities;
  • Designs and recommends appropriate agroforestry systems best practices;
  • Identifies stakeholders interested in reforestation and improve their farming establishment with long term economic agroforestry solutions; 
  • Assists in the development of a training programme to assist farmers in making sound business decisions, to maximize profit from agroforestry innovations, develop market skills, thus improving their economic status over time;

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • BSc. Degree in Forestry, Agroforestry, Natural resource management or related discipline 
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience in the field of Forestry, Agroforestry, Natural Resources Management or land use planning/management
